Serving America First is very active in the Central Ohio area
through a variety of practical and helpful programs. Staffed entirely
by volunteers since its founding, Serving America First provides
services to more than 800 families each month through two primary
programs; the SAF Food Pantry and the Free Food Distribution Program.
In addition, SAF provides free educational programs and participates
in community outreach.
The Food Pantry, located at 379 West Eighth Avenue, provides basic
food items including vegetables, beans, grains, fruits, and dairy
products to low-income persons.
The Free Food Distribution Program (our "Serve Outs") provides
as many as 200 people per week with hot meals prepared and coordinated
by Serving America First volunteers. Each Sunday and Thursday,
SAF volunteers cook healthy, complete meals for a serve out at
our 379 W. 8th Avenue location. The volunteers have been trained
to plan and prepare the meals according to high standards of nutrition,
food safety, and thrift.
Our education programs range from nutritional and cooking instruction
to teaching the importance of an environment free from substance
abuse. Since all our volunteers embrace this lifestyle, we can
also lead by example.
SAF also participates in Community outreach programs including
delivering food to homebound persons, participating in charity
events, and assisting in environmental projects.
Individuals and families are referred to SAF from various community
agencies such as First Link, The Red Cross, Franklin County Senior
Options, The Salvation Army, Southeast Mental Health, or may be
self-referred. We also receive occasional emergency calls from
Meals on Wheels.
Serving America First looks forward to continuing its outreach to needy persons and
families through helping to meet one of life's basic needs. Working in conjunction
with a comprehensive network of services providers in the local area, it recognizes
the complexities and challenges faced by the homeless and low-income members of its
community. In the spirit of its founder, Serving America First seeks to empower
persons to become self-sufficient and self-realized thus allowing them to address
their spiritual needs.
