Our Free Food Distribution Program, or "Serve Outs",
have allowed Serving America First volunteers to feed less fortunate
members of our community by proving healthy, homemade hot meals to those in need.
On Sundays and Thursdays, there are two hot meal serve outs from the location
at 379 West 8th Avenue. These meals are complete with vegetarian
entrees, breads, salad, vegetables, drink and dessert. All food
is prepared fresh and onsite with a maximum of organic and natural
foods. Volunteers have been providing this service since 1969
at that location before SAF was officially formed.
These restaurant-quality meals consist of fresh plant-based produce
and a minimum amount of packaged products. Not only are they healthy
and tasty, but they cost on average as little as 72 cents per
person. Anyone in the community is welcome to receive food at
the serve outs at absolutely no cost to them.
The Free Food Distribution Program has gained a reputation of
service to the community and frequently provides hot meals to
the clients of various community based organizations, such as
Southside Settlement House and AIDS Connection Services. Our program
has partnered with the Columbus AIDS Walk to supply meals to its
volunteers and will expand its services to provide healthy food
to Camp Sunrise for children with HIV/AIDS.
SAF also contributes throughout the year at various events in
the Columbus area. SAF volunteers are regularly requested to provide
hot meal services by several local organizations, such as Southside
Settlement House and Aids Connection Services.
